Seacoast Sustainability Fair
Sunday, April 14, 12-3pm, Connie Bean Center, Portsmouth
The Town of Kittery is working with the Kittery Athletics & Field Committee and the Kittery Community Center Board of Directors to provide community members with improved active recreation, passive recreation and athletic spaces throughout town. However, the proposed plan for Memorial Field, includes the conversion of the natural grass field to a synthetic turf field. Learn more about the proposed plan here.
KitteryCAN does not support the installation of a synthetic turf field in Kittery due its harmful impacts on climate, the environment, and human health. Research also shows that synthetic turf is more expensive that natural grass-based systems when factoring in the full life cycle cost.

The New Freebie Barn
The Town of Kittery, in collaboration with the Climate Adaptation Committee and Kittery Climate Action Now (KCAN) reopened the Freebie Barn Program with exciting improvements.
The Freebie Barn is a place to drop off, pick up, and swap common, reusable items EVERY Wednesday and Saturday (dependent on volunteer availability). The goal of the Freebie Barn is to prevent items that still have a useful life and purpose, from being put into the waste stream and landfills.

- The Freebie Barn will no longer follow monthly donation themes. Residents are welcome to donate items in good working condition, as space allows. All donations will be checked by our volunteers. Acceptability of donations is at the discretion of our volunteers.
- The Freebie Barn will continue utilizing local Community Partners to ensure items that still have useful life, can be repurposed or reused by those in need.
- Residents that are interested in donating items in response to specific local needs are also encouraged to explore the Community Resource Donation Guide. The guide includes several local organizations that collect/repurpose items, in addition to what can be donated to the Freebie Barn.
