Solarize Kittery
Reduce Your Carbon Footprint & Save Money
KCAN has launched a campaign to increase the number of residents who utilize solar power for their electric needs. With more options than ever, there is a need to reduce confusion and increase people’s understanding about how to become part of the solar solution whether as a homeowner or renter. Through KitteryCAN’s SOLARIZE KITTERY campaign, we aim to enroll 200 households in community solar and rooftop solar over the next year.

Community Solar allows you to receive the benefits of solar energy without having to install equipment on your home by connecting you to a local solar farm through a subscription. As a subscriber, you support clean energy in your community while also saving money on your energy bill.
What are the benefits of Community Solar?
- Save up to 15% on your annual electricity costs
- No additional costs
- Available to homeowners, renters, businesses, and just about anyone who pays an electric bill in Maine
- Support the clean energy transition and fight climate change by decarbonizing the power supply
- No installations, maintenance, or upfront costs
How does Community Solar work?
- Sign up with a community solar subscriber and they will assign you a share of the electricity generated from a local solar farm based on your typical energy use.
- As the solar farm produces energy, a credit is applied to your electric bill based on your share of the solar energy produced, reducing your total electricity bill.
- You pay the community solar subscriber for the energy produced at a discounted rate, reducing your overall cost of electricity; however, your bill in the summer is typically higher when the panels are generating more electricity and lower in the winter.
